Preparing for EOY Exams

The End-of-Year (EOY) Exams are approaching, and the only way to score well is to work hard and give our best for it. One good way of preparing for the examinations is revising. Although it might seem that there is not much to revise, the minimal things to revise might help us greatly when writing in the examinations.

The most important way is to read through all the worksheets and notes given or done over the course of this year. Most of them contain important points that we should take note of while writing during the real paper. Read through the mistakes that we made and correct them to make sure that we will not make the same mistake in the examination.

It is a little too late to improve the English standard of oneself. The standard is build up through daily readings - books and newspapers. However, it is never too late to start. By reading through books and newspapers, we will have a greater understanding on how we should phrase our sentences in our compositions. (Free Essay, Situational Writing)

For Comprehension, Vocabulary and Summary, it depends on our understanding of the passage. This is, too, nurtured by the great amount of readings we do. For Summary, we can incorporate some of the skills that we have learnt when writing Micro Fictions towards the end of Term 2.

Unseen Prose or Poem is more recently learnt, so the skills are still furnished. Figurative language should be picked up from these. Some reading of notes about these would help us to pick up these figurative languages more easily.

Lastly, about the novel, Animal Farm, it is only our duty to read the novel through thoroughly, ensuring that we have a deep understanding of it. Since this is closed-book, it will also be good for us if we memorise some quotes that might answer a possible question during the examination, mostly revolving Squealer, the hated Napoleon and the Seven Commandments.

How we perform for this last obstacle of the year, it will be up to us. I wonder: Am I prepared for the examinations yet?
